Malling... a modern way to chill out, Ibn Battuta mall in Dubai, theme inspired by the travels of Ibn Battuta, the great traveler

Today's post is about a very beautiful mall, Ibn Battuta mall, a themed mall in Dubai, inspired by the travels of the famous Arabic explorer Ibn Battuta. His full name is Abu Abdulla Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Al Lawati Al Tangi Ibn Batutta. (1304 to 1369).
Birthplace - Tangier, Morocco.
He was a great Islamic scholar and traveler.

At a very young age he started on a journey for the holy Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. This was a long journey and after completing the pilgrimage he decided to continue his travel to other countries that took many years before his return to Morocco. He has traveled extensively North Africa, Egypt, Swahili coast, Palestine, Syria, Andalusia, Persia, Tunisia, India, Srilanka, Maldives, China and finally back to Morocco. Upon his return almost thirty years later to Morocco he was appointed in the court of the Sultan. This ruler ordered his scribe to record the travel experiences of this great adventurer, the 'Rihla'. Rihla remains as the sole record of this great traveler's adventures.

There are plenty of world famous brands here.

The architecture of this mall is stunning !

I have already posted about 'South-pointing chariot', a wonderful instrument for finding directions used in ancient times in China. Very interesting equipment!

I am sure nobody will be bored visiting here especially if you are interested in history.

The picture above is of Ibn Battuta gate, where the Movenpick hotel is situated. Beautiful view! Hats off to this wonderful idea of building a mall conceived by the travels of this famous person.

The Islamic astrolabe

Food courts, restaurants, cinemas, you name it... they have it here!
Hardships, dangerous circumstances, and adversities did not deter this great man from pursuing single-handedly the adventures and exploration of previously unknown, far away places, cultures, and lifestyles. His accounts gave mankind valuable insights into the life of people during those ancient times and contributed authoritative facts to history.

When I travel places, I just loiter around with no sense of direction that's why I google things and read travel blogs. This is a must see and entices me to visit Dubai one of these days. I know it is expensive in there but gathering memories through travels is irreplaceable.

If I go to Dubai (I probably will), I'll come back to the post for tips. The pics are inspiring, Rajiv! Could you enlarge the font size, please? I have a poor eyesight, we can zoom in pics, but not the text, you know. Thanks in advance!

Rajiv Sankarapillai said...

Wow, great !
Irina, sure you will have a wonderful time in Dubai ! Plan everything well in advance and enjoy !
Will share whatever info I know ; please feel free to contact me if you plan to go there. I have already blogged about many attractions over there in my blogs.
Regarding font size, in my template post section in blogspot there is an option - "normal" font size and I select it for all my posts. The large font size is very large when viewed on browsers.
But we can easily adjust the font size of the web pages that we view by adjusting the zoom according to our preference. You can easily adjust the text size also, it can be enlarged or zoomed out like pictures ! For example, in Internet explorer by clicking open the circular wheel icon of "Tools" on the upper right hand side of the window and if we select the "zoom" option from the drop down menu it will show the options from 50% to 400%. Just select the size that you are comfortable with, simple ! Moreover, there is a custom zoom size option as well in the menu. This option of zoom is applicable to the whole of webpage with pics as well as text included.
In the Google chrome browser click open the "Customize and control Google chrome" icon that we can see on the right upper corner in our window and adjust the zoom suitable to our reading comfort.
In Mozilla firefox the zoom option is available in the drop down menu on the "view" icon.
Hope this will help you in selecting the font size of the text according to your reading comfort.
Thank you so much, please feel free to visit the blogs again and write comments.
